Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in power within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

The Reason for Division

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer has experience in the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
