19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A revitalized the Russian player secured his maiden trophy for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former mentor Cervara.

Currently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Success also means he has secured twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I won when my child my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, including in that event previously this season.

His defensive strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his ability to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serve.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, took control to create a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early-game opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, he earned victory with a rally at the front of the court, with Moutet unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
